Chickens
Update 2 May 2022: We added three more barred rocks this spring from a client who wanted to reduce her flock. Took some work to get them integrated, but now everyone is friendly.
For reasons I won’t get into, we had to move our coop. So that project has been a chore but is now completed too.
Chicken cam has been down for a while, will try to restore at some point, especially now that they are on the other side of the house where I can’t see them as well. At least the cats have good entertainment looking out from their perch.
Chickens are really wonderful; everyone should have a few.

We built a large coop and run for our seven hens. We’ve raised these ladies from hatching and are looking forward to our first eggs.

Chief Poultry Officer Dragon. She’s a gentle but effective brood leader. Plymouth Barred Rock.
Second in Command Peeve (“Pet Peeve“) with CPO Dragon reviewing plans. Peeve is a Rhode Island Red / Leghorn cross.
Buffy. One of our very well-mannered Buff Orpingtons
Reba. She may be small but she’s a sweetheart. Buff Orpington.
Fern and Jill are Buff Brahmas. Fern is named after my grandmother. Grandma once said to me “Your generation has more money than mine did, but you have a lot more stress. We enjoyed simple pleasures like the new chicks in the barnyard.“ It was her gentle admonishment that we should seek the simple life that put us on the path to chickens.
Gwen (“Penguin“). Our most shy lady. Australorp.
